BRIEF PROFILE OF CHIEF CHIEMEZIE IKEAZOR, SAN OBOLI III of OBOSI

Chief Chimezie Ikeazor was born at Ire Village, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, to Mr. Eugene Akosa Ikeazor, the first African Commissioner of Police in the then Eastern Region and Madam Eunice Nwabogo Ikeazor {Nee Iweka), a pioneer midwife in then Eastern Nigeria.

He attended kindergarten, school in Lagos, Government school, Aba and C.M.S Central School, Obosi, for his primary education. He fulfilled his secondary education at the Merchants of Light School, Oba, Anambra State. He studied Divinity and Law in the University of Hull, England and King’s College, respectively. HE studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Law LL.B, specialising in Public International Law, also an Associate of King’s College Diploma in Theology, (AKC).

He was called to the English Bar (of Grays Inn, London) in February 1959 and was enrolled at the Federal Supreme Court to practice Law in Nigeria in April, 1960. He was elected unopposed as national vice-president of the Nigeria Bar Association in 1973. He founded the Nigerian Legal Aid Association in 1974 and also was elected Director, governing board of International Legal Aid Association as African Representative and came 2nd positon in World Legal Aid Merit Award in Vancouver, Canada, same year.

He was conferred with the status of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 1986 and authored the book, Titled: “LEGAL AID FOR THE POOR IN NIGERIA” in 2002. He received the Legal Aid Council Merit Award (Founder of Legal Aid Council of Nigeria) in 2007.

It is in appreciation of his remarkable and selfless pursuits in his career as a Legal practitioner and with the hope that other Nigerians not just in the Legal profession, but in all other facets of public and private endeavors will emulate his sense of patriotism and selfless service to humanity, that we established the “CHIEF CHIMEZIE IKEAZOR PRIZE”.

He passed on to glory on the 12th of October, 2012.
