He was born on the 28th of July, 1960 into the family of Pa and Ma Simeon Soludo. He grew up in the village of Isuofia in Aguata, Anambra State, and attended Uga Boys Secondary School, where he was senior prefect. He proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in Enugu State, where he got a first-class degree in economics in 1984. He continued in UNN and received his Master’s degree in 1987 and doctorate in 1989, graduating as best student at all three levels. He then became a Professor of Economics at UNN.
He is married to Nonye Frances Soludo since December 1992; they are blessed with six children.
His sterling performance in his academic activities culminating in a First-Class degree at the University served as his foundation to greater heights in life. He is our typical “from the classroom to the universe”. He has been a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund, the University of Cambridge, the Brookings institution, the University of Warwick, the University of Oxford as well as a visiting professor at Swarthmore College (USA). He has also worked as a consultant for a number of international organisations, including; The World Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the United Nations Development Programme.
Soludo is a core professional in the business of macroeconomics, a subject he learnt in the University. He has been trained and involved in research, teaching, and auditing in such disciplines as multi-country macro-econometric modelling, techniques of computable general equilibrium modelling, survey methodology, and panel data econometrics, among others. He studied and thought these courses at many universities, including Oxford, Cambridge and Warwick. Soludo has co-authored, co-edited, and authored a number of books on this subject matter.
Not surprising with his in-depth, vast and excellent knowledge in the field of Economics and an expert in Macro-economics. He became a cake too hot to handle and much sought after, such that in 2003, he was appointed as the Chief Economic Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003.
President Olusegun Obasanjo, saw the best of the best in Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo and just knew he was larger than the position of Chief Economic Adviser to the President such that when then Central Bank of Nigeria, Governor completed his tenure, he wasted no time in appointing Soludo as CBN, Governor, making him the first pure economists to mount that saddle in Nigeria.
And Soludo didn’t disappoint, during his tenure the banking sector was strengthened through the re-capitalisation policy.
