The Registrar of Wigwe University in the Isiokpo area of Rivers State, Ulonna Iyama, has died in a hospital in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
It was gathered that Iyama’s death resulted from complications following fibroid surgery and an erroneous blood transfusion.
The Wigwe University Registrar, who was initially admitted to a hospital in Abuja for fibroid treatment, was said to have received the wrong blood type, leading to a fatal reaction.
“She died of loss of blood due to fibroid complications under mysterious circumstances. We were told that a wrong blood transfusion led to her death. When her condition worsened due to complications, she was referred to another hospital where she passed on” a family source told the Vanguard on Monday, July 29, 2024.
The family has however called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Iyama’s death to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.
The registrar’s demise comes months after the death of Wigwe University founder, Herbert Wigwe, who died in a helicopter crash in California, the United States, alongside his wife and son.
